The Little Black Box ~ July! Socks & Laundry Detergent!?!

Continuing on with yesterday's post about the goodies in this month's The Little Black Box Sampler...

Here are my Favorite:

Accessories & Unusual Handmade Products

Mugwort Maggies Apothecary
Lavender Laundry Soap

Ever used Homemade Laundry detergent before? Don't worry, you aren't alone! I've never even heard of such a thing until I found out that a sample would be in The Little Black Box this month. I was sooo excited to hear that I might get to try some and Luckily, I did! I expected a little pouch to do a load of laundry but instead I got a little pouch that can do up to 5 loads of laundry because it only takes a Tablespoon of detergent to do a full load of laundry. Now If you ask my husband, he will tell you that I overload the washer... I do, and I just can't help it because with 4 kids, I want to get as much done as quickly as possible. I know! It's a terrible habit but Nevertheless I was so happy that even with my tendency to overstuff, my laundry came out smelling lovely and super soft! I used this on my bedroom sheets and enjoyed the peaceful lavender induced sleep all night long. I'm certainly going to be placing an order for some of this. I think anyone can appreciate a product that goes such a long way and smells so soothing.

Sock Dreams
Sock Dreams

Yay, I scored some of these handmade cuties in my box. A pair of Brown knee socks! They are super stretchy and rather thick which is wonderful for the 9 months of winter I have to endure living in Northern Wisconsin. These are so very soft and somehow they just seem to fit me perfectly even though I'm a rather chunky size 8/9. Oh, how I love a good snug fitting pair of socks tho, I think everyone does! When my feet feel good, I feel good. It makes me feel clean, comfortable, and ready to take on the day! Looking at these, they are so luxurious and the packaging is adorable with a natural paper wrapper w/some yarn to pkg these up, you would expect to see them neatly displayed in a craft shop. Like many other Craft Shop Goodies I think these would really make a Terrific gift for someone you love. I'm thinking of choosing some for Grandma to keep her snug as a bug while reading a book in her favorite chair as well as some knee socks for my daughter to match some of her adorable fall skirts. As for me, on a cool summer night after bathing with some of my favorite smelly goodies, I will put my hair up in a clip, slip into some of my favorite jammies, sip a lovely cup of Tea from SBS, and relax on the porch in my newly found favorite pair of socks!

The Little Black Box ~ July! The Lotion/Scrubs/Hair Care

Continuing with Yesterday's post of Items from The Little Black Box July Sampler...

Here are my favorite:

Scrubs

Cherriflip

Snow Blossom

A while back I swapped with a fellow MUA (Makeup Alley) for a few sprays from this same maker that ended up just not being my taste and sadly made thier way back into various other swaps. So, when I saw the adorable lil tub with the pretty cherriflip logo I tried not to get my hopes up but I gave it a fair chance anyway. To my surprise, I found myself loving this Sugar Scrub in the sweet tangy fruit candy scent of "Snow Blossom". It was absolutely fantastic and the scrub had a cleansing effect rather than a moisturizing or oily feel. It rinsed away quickly and actually left me feeling clean. I would def. recommend this for those of you who aren't interested in one of those lathering moisturizing scrubs or washes that sometimes feel like you are bathing with lotion. I don't really think this is for anyone who is looking for a heavy exfoliation either as the sugars in this scrub seem to melt rather quickly and are not super scrubby but the texture is very lovely with a touch of foam when you smooth it onto your skin. I will be needing more of this.

Lotions/Butters

Jaycee Danielle

Jaycee Danielle

Once again, I received a pretty little bottle of lotion from Jaycee Danielle that I just adored. The scent was Cherry Limeade and really it doesn't sound as good as it smells. The notes in this scent are very well defined and I walked around all day smelling like a delicious Sweet & Sour Mix of Cherry and Limes. It got me craving a cold glass of Koolaid in the Summer just like when I was a kid. After trying this out I noticed I had a newsletter for a Free Shipping Special from Le Mod Boutique that of course carries quite a few Jaycee Danielle Tarts for Sale so I couldn't help but buy a box and check out some of the other scents. I was sure to include a few in Cherry Limeade and Ocean Water since I already knew I loved those. I also got some Fruit Lupes, Blueberry Breezer, White Cake, Cinnamon Buns, Wildberry Mousse, Apricot, and a few others. Unfortunately there was only 1 Whipped Cream Tart left and Whipped Cream scents have been my Major Lemming this month. I really have to say that all the Tarts I ordered smelled incredible. I even got myself a small bottle of "Whipped Dreams" and for my daughter, a matching bottle of "Sweet Dreams". If you haven't seen the Little Girls Lotions at Jaycee Danielle, you should really check them out. Super Cute Waterproof bottles with Shiny Pink Lids. I can't buy my kids lotion from Bath & Body Works due to their super sensitive skin and whatever chemicals BBW is putting in their Kids lotions causes my girls rashes. Anyway, I smoothed this on my daughters dry legs, knees, and elbows after her bath today and she put some on her tummy this morning as well. I must say her skin has already returned to baby soft plus she smells nearly as sweet as she really is *Wink* I'm really glad to finally find something that will work for them and has a reasonable price tag. I have tried California Baby products and they are very natural as well but both the scents and the costs are really quite "Ewww"

Hair Care Products

Cleanse Your Soul (CYS)
CYS

The only Hair Care Products in the July box were from this Lovely Etailer but are totaly worth making a post about. Included was a square black spray bottle with a clear lid of Hair Protein Mist in the fragrance "Coral Sugar". This, to say the least, was my favorite product in the entire box. It took me several attempts to get the sprayer working which was quite frustrating, I actually thought it was defective or something but really you just have to give it a few good pumps to get it going the first time since it's brand new. After that it worked like a charm. The scent itself was so very Vibrant and Juicy while still being so very sweet for me. After trying it out, I also decided it was the perfect scent to wear to the Beach so I packed up the little ones that day and drove them down for some fun in the sun. My husband ended up surprising us there as he had arrived home early from a long work trip. I actually noticed him lingering with his nose in my hair as we hugged and he looked very pleased :) It's a good feeling to know you smell nice isn't it? It really doesn't matter if you are on a date, Hanging out at the Beach or just making dinner. Thank you CYS, I love this product!

Along with the Spray there was also a bottle of "Wedding Cake" Conditioner that made my hair feel very soft and had a pleasant freshly baked cake scent. It wasn't my favorite version of cake because there was a hint of something bitter to it in the background... almost like an After-Smell which is likely due to the fact that it is a Conditioner and does not carry fragrance as well as lotion or perfume would. Still it did put my Staple conditioner to shame especially because it did NOT leave that slippery residue on my back. I really hate having to spend an extra ten minutes in the shower just trying to rinse my back off after I've used a conditoner so thank goodness someone has made one that softens your hair and actually rinses off of your body! I think I might try this again with a scent that is more masking as Cake scents tend to be very light. I bet I could get this in Coral Sugar and it would make my day... OOOoooo la la.

The Little Black Box ~ July! The TARTS

Being my first time trying out The Little Black Box, I had no idea what to expect. Seeing the long list of Wonderful & Unique Etailers on the "What's in the Box" Page of TLBB's site... I certainly had high hopes.

When the Box arrived the first thing I noticed was that of course it wasn't black at all! It actually arrived in your standard box from the post office which makes perfect sense now that I think about it. Inside was some paper to keep the box in place and a rather small black box tied up ever so neatly. As for smell, I really didn't smell much but a slight whisper of lemon.

I rec. items from 12 etailers total but there was a huge variety of products which was really great for someone like me, who wants to try a bit of everything. As with any review, I decided that It was best to really give the items a good test before making my reviews and now of course ...

Here are my favorite:

Tarts

Aroma Soy
Aroma Soy by Grazia

Luckily since I'm a huge fan of coffee I ended up with a Soy Melt in the lovely scent of Hazlenut Latte. I decided to test this one out in my kitchen since that's where the coffee making magic typically occurs in my home. Packaged in a cute little clear plastic cup with a lid, I popped it out into a standard tealight style burner. It melted rather quickly but the scent was heavenly. This Scent has a sweet note to it that reminds me of a dollop of whipped cream. Who says coffee is for fall or winter... an iced hazelnut latte would be excellent even in the hot July sun.

Whiff n Sniff

Wow, I really didn't see this one coming. I've visited Whiff n Sniff several times in the past and never really had anything pull me into an order. I think it's because they seem like your standard run of the mill tart cups and I've tried a ton but let me tell you. The scents are really worth trying out. I rec. 1 cup in Orange Juice Cake & 1 cup in Emerald City Cake (which is green and sprinkled with cinnamon, I want a real cake that smells like this!) I burned the Orange Juice Cake last night after we came back from the Lake because it seemed like a Summery Dessert Flavor and boy was I right, my house still smells fantastic. Today, A swap box has shown up at my door stop from the lovely ladies at Lemming Central and included are some cups from Whiff N Sniff that I'm going to surely snag a few for myself! (Thank you Ronda!)

Leeanns Natural Soy Candles
Leeanns Natural Soy Candles

Ordinarily I wouldn't be so intrigued with such a simply packaged little cream colored tart. This strange little tart arrived in a little ziploc type bag with a label that reads "Gembertaarts". Now to be honest, I took one smell of this little critter "cold" and turned my nose up at it. Just didn't seem to smell that great to me. But after a while I kept returning to test the unusual aroma that i cannot seem to describe with any other word but "unusual". If you are looking to try something new, this would be a great scent to give a chance. It starts off a little nutmeg custard-like to me rather than a ginger as described. I really enjoyed it burning down into a light buttery cake scent that's very sweet. I guess sometimes tarts (like most people) really deserve the opportunity to fully display the warming goodness deep inside!
